To mask or not to mask

Contrary to the title, this is not actually going to be a controversial topic, at least not in the way you think it is! However, this is probably going to be a hot take.

While we all live in the time of Covid-19, TV, in its various forms, has become a nice break from reality. Even at the beginning, we had Tiger King to launch us into the next 8 months of lockdowns, quarantines, and restrictions. Unfortunately, our regular, fall TV programming faced setbacks and postponements due to Covid.

Imagine how excited I was to start the new season of Law & Order: SVU! The earth was healing and life had a semblance of normalcy as my province moved into new lockdown measures. L&O has always been the highlight of my week and I looked forward to the new season. Until it came. The episode touched on all the important points of the year - the BLM movement and police brutality - as one would expect for a program usually ripped from the headlines. That's not the issue.

The use of masks annoyed me. It wasn't the wearing of the masks that annoyed me, but the incompetent wearing of masks. They would have a whole conversation without masks, locked in a tiny interrogation room with like 4 people and no masks. And yet, they would turn around and put one on to stand alone in an empty park OUTSIDE. The masks were on and off at random times. And the removal procedure-ugh-I can't even! Honestly, the whole episode was appalling in the misuse of masks and I just couldn't deal with it. No one had a hot clue what was happening and honestly, not that Canada should fully talk at this point, it's no wonder it's kinda a garbage fire to the south!

While I understand that there are safety surrounding filming during Covid, but if they couldn't make up their minds as to how to deal with the mask issue, or even wear them properly in a way that would actually provide some measure of safety for all those involved, either wait until it's fully safe to actually film or ignore the masks and allow us to at least pretend life is as normal for 1 hour each week.
